2008 races will again feature a Most Consistent Horse Award
D&G Barrel Productions and Cowboy Times Magazine have teamed up again to bring you their Most Consistent Horse Award at their 2008 shows. This award is for the horse/rider combo that runs the most consistent over a 3-day race. In order to be eligible for one of the two award jackets, a horse/rider combo must run all 3 days at a D&G weekend race.
"The Most Consistent Horse Award goes to the horse that runs the same all weekend long," said Cowboy Times owner, Angie GrandPre. "I came up with the idea last year because I am a big believer in consistency and wanted a way for those horses to get recognition." She went on to say that the award doesn't depend on what the fastest horse does each day; it is just a competition between you, your horse and your three runs.
Phil Goostree with D&G Barrel Productions said, "This tells you how well the horse is trained and what he can do as far as consistency. Smooth, consistent runs is where people will make money over a period of time!"
The Most Consistent Horse Award is calculated by taking the positive difference (absolute value) between run #1 and run #2, between run #2 and run #3 & between run #1 and run #3. The 3 differences are then added together to get your time difference for the weekend. See examples below for more details.
In order to be eligible for the award, a horse/rider combo has to enter all 3 races in a weekend at a D&G Barrel Production event and have 3 clean runs (a no-time makes you ineligible). At the end of the 3-day show, Cowboy Times and D&G will present two award jackets. Winners must be present. If a called winner is not present, the next place winner will be announced. This will be done until 2 winners are present and claim their jackets.
